Dr Sarah Webb
- Position
- Specialist surgeon
Sarah grew up on the outskirts of Brisbane and decided that she was going to be a veterinarian when she was 8 years old. She grew up surrounded by a menagerie of animals including horses, cows, chooks, turkeys, geese and, of course, the family dogs and cats. One of her daily chores was milking the family cow. She went on to graduate from the University of Queensland (with Honours) and later returned to the faculty as a registrar in small animal surgery.
She moved to Canberra with Richard, her husband, and a young baby in 1984, commenced a surgical practice and also had two more children. They now live just over the border on a small farm on which they run cattle, horses and kangaroos.
Sarah is the only registered specialist small animal surgeon in Canberra . She has a strong interest in orthopaedics (including fracture repair, joint reconstruction), spinal surgery and all types of soft tissue surgery. She also performs endoscopy (using special telescopes to examine the nose, bronchi, oesophagus and stomach, large intestine, and bladder, as well as joints (arthroscopy). She has developed a special expertise in the repair of cruciate ruptures using the latest technique of tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA).
Sarah is also the President of the Centre for Veterinary Education at the University of Sydney and was awarded the Belle Bruce Reid Medal by the University of Melbourne in 2006. She declares that she cannot see herself slowing down just yet.
